Seeding Rogers' Newer Ground

Hydroseeding in Rogers is closely tied to growth. The town grew slowly until Interstate 94 was built through it in 1972, and new jobs brought new residents. As it grew, Rogers annexed more and more of Hassan Township until the township was completely merged into the city on January 1, 2012. A lot of that former township land is now being turned into homes and business sites.

Rural land, new lots

Ground that was township farmland a decade or two ago is now graded for streets and houses. That makes for wide-open lots with fertile soil underneath, but often stripped or compacted during construction. We restore topsoil where the grade cut too deep and loosen compacted areas before we spray.

The Crow River

The western boundary of Rogers touches the Crow River. Lots that drain toward the river or its low ground need sediment control during construction: silt fence along the down-slope side, protected inlets and quick cover with hydromulch. On sloped ground near the river, erosion control blankets or bonded fiber matrix hold the seed in place.

Railroad beginnings

Rogers started in the 1880s around a Great Northern depot that served the area's rich timber resources. Older lots near the original town have mature trees and older lawns, where overseeding and shade-tolerant seed blends make the most difference.

Commercial and industrial sites

With businesses such as Graco and Reinhart Foodservice locating along I-94, commercial and industrial sites need hydroseeding on berms, ponds and disturbed areas. Commercial hydroseeding covers that ground quickly and helps a site meet its stormwater permit.

Rogers Questions

Is the soil on former Hassan Township farmland good for a lawn?

It is often fertile, but construction can strip or compact it. We fix that before seeding.

Our lot drains toward the Crow River. Do we need sediment control?

During grading, yes. A silt fence on the low side and fast mulch cover keep soil out of the river.

Can you hydroseed berms and ponds on a commercial site?

Yes. Commercial hydroseeding covers berms, pond slopes and disturbed ground quickly.

We have an older lot in the original town. What helps a thin lawn under big trees?

Aeration and overseeding with a shade-tolerant blend, ideally in late summer.
