A Seeding Crew Built Around Minnesota's Short Window

Elite Hydroseeding Minneapolis sprays new lawns, stabilizes bare construction ground, lays erosion control blankets, installs silt fence and inlet protection, grades and spreads topsoil, and overseeds worn-out turf in Minneapolis and the cities around it.

Grass here has a narrow season. The University of Minnesota Extension puts the best time to seed a Minnesota lawn at mid-August to mid-September, with early spring as the fallback for renovation. October at the airport averages a daily mean just under 50 degrees, and November averages 6.8 inches of snow. That leaves a few weeks each year when seed, soil temperature and rain line up. We plan our schedule, and yours, around that window.

The city also has rules for bare ground. Minneapolis requires an erosion control permit when a project disturbs more than 500 square feet of soil, and an approved erosion control plan above 5,000 square feet. Builders on larger sites answer to the state construction stormwater permit as well. We know where hydroseed, mulch, blankets and silt fence fit into those requirements, and we tell you plainly when a permit is your responsibility or your general contractor's.

Our habits on every job

  • A site walk first: we look at the slope, the soil, the shade, where water runs and where the nearest storm drain sits
  • A written quote that lists prep, seed, mulch, fertilizer and any erosion control as separate items
  • Seed mixes based on University of Minnesota Extension recommendations for sun, shade and wear
  • Starter fertilizer with phosphorus only where city rules allow it, which includes a new lawn's first growing season
  • A watering plan left with you on the day we spray, written for the mix we used
  • Straight answers if hydroseed is the wrong choice and sod or a blanket would serve you better
