New Lawns on Old Lots
Hydroseeding in Edina is rarely about raw land. The city is more than 95 percent developed, so most of our work follows a teardown and rebuild, a major addition or a landscape redo on an established lot. The job is to bring a torn-up yard back to a finished lawn quickly and neatly, next to neighbors whose yards are already mature.
After the excavator leaves
A rebuild leaves compacted soil, buried debris and a grade that may not match the old one. Our grading crew rips compacted areas, rakes out rubble, sets the grade so water runs away from the new foundation and to the street, and spreads topsoil where needed. Only then do we spray the hydroseed lawn.
Minnehaha Creek roots
Edina began as a farming and milling community along Minnehaha Creek in the 1860s, and the city takes its name from the Edina Mill. Lots near the creek still slope toward it. During a rebuild there, silt fence along the low edge and a fast hydromulch cover keep the soil out of the creek.
Matching an older lawn
Edina grew from a streetcar suburb into a car-centered suburb in the 1950s and 1960s, so many neighboring lawns are 60 years old, shaded by mature trees and full of mixed grasses. We pick a seed blend that blends with what is around it, often heavy on fine fescues for shade, so the new section does not look like a patch.
Sediment control on tight sites
On a small rebuild site, the street and storm drain are only a few feet from bare soil. We set inlet protection on nearby catch basins and keep a sediment barrier along the curb side until the new lawn has filled in.

Edina Questions
Can you seed a lawn right after our teardown rebuild is finished?
Yes. We grade, clear debris and add topsoil first, then hydroseed so the yard is ready to grow.
Will the new grass match my neighbor's older lawn?
We choose a blend suited to the shade and the grasses next door so the new section blends in as it matures.
Our lot slopes to Minnehaha Creek. What do you do during construction?
We place silt fence along the low edge and cover bare soil quickly with hydromulch to keep sediment out of the creek.
Do you handle inlet protection on the storm drain in front of our house?
Yes. We install it before grading starts and remove it once the lawn is established.
